John Currin (Art is funny)

Image
For my final blog post, I wanted to talk about an artist that I found in my Discovery to find contemporary artists to expand my knowledge and widen my horizon on what is possible in the art world than the people working today. That's when I came across John Currin He's an American painter who I find extremely fascinating. His artwork conveys all the intricate techniques of a master painter but has a fun whimsical element to it. The portraits he paints are beautifully done with light colors smooth brush strokes and amazing detail but they also have an unworldly funny element to them. I particularly like the two JFK's as little girls painting. It's things that are fun and different and weird but with all the same style and techniques as Leonardo da Vinci. He draws a wide range of inspiration from multiple sources such as pin-up magazines paintings Renaissance Era artwork and much more and he ties it all together in a way that's something new he's manipulating dist

The Horror and Beauty of Jenny Saville

Today I want to talk about a contemporary artist that I have found to be really amazing and profound. in my quest to find new artists and being in this contemporary art history class I've come across many artists that I've never seen or heard of before. That's when I came across an artist named Jenny Saville.  https://www.theartstory.org/artist/saville-jenny/      She's an artist who has studied corpses in the morgue. Typically the figures she draws and paints are female, nude, and obese. Saville was born in Cambridge, England, in 1970, and studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1988 to 1992. In 1991, she also attended the University of Cincinnati. Her research concentrated on the "imperfections" of flesh, including the taboos and social ramifications. She was interested in the many ways that flesh is altered and deformed. She studied classical and Renaissance sculpture, looked at cadavers in the morgue, analyzed meat and animals, investigated medical

His artwork has become official movie posters DVD covers, video game posters, Broadway posters, and much more. I feel like as long as I can remember I’ve loved Olly Moss’s artwork it’s just the name too. Olly Moss, it’s so iconic in a way. I discovered Olly Moss when I was in middle school and I really attached myself to his artwork. He’s an English graphic design artist who does a lot of pop culture-inspired artwork, but mainly movies. He’s also dived into comic books and music as well as other promotional forms of artwork. He has a signature style of using silhouettes as backgrounds, and also trick imagery and illusions to create very visually interesting fun, and unique posters. He’s also been known to recon spoof and parody movie posters in a new and fun way which I think is very interesting. I remember when I was younger he became the artist I tried the mimic. I thought his artwork was so amazing. I tried so much to incorporate his ideas of a silhouette or interesting dyn

My visit to the Metropolitan Art Museum

I think there are very few times in life when we are constantly in awe of everything in our environment and it's an ever-changing landscape of emotion and constant interest. I went to New York City in 2021 right after I graduated high school. I went with a couple of my friends to see a concert and explore the city. I had really never been away from home for that long in a place so busy truly the city never slept.  Our concert was delayed due to weather so we got to stay a few more days which didn't bother me at all despite me not having any money to prolong my visit anymore.   In that time we went to the MET twice and it was some of the best memories I have of being in New York. I saw some of the most interesting diverse and creative works of art that I have ever seen in my life. The Metropolitan Art Museum is one of those museums that stands out as one of the greats and one of the greatest art museums there is. So I'd like to share with you some of my favorite pieces of ar
